Glass House.... On May 19, 2005, the USPS issued a set of twelve stamps to honor MASTERWORKS OF MODERN AMERICAN ARCHITECTURE. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover for the Glass House, designed by architect Philip Johnson, built in 1949, and located in New Canaan, Connecticut. The envelope has the new stamp, depicting the interior of the house in shades of gray, cancelled from the city of issue (Las Vegas, Nevada) on the first day of issue captioned above.
The cachet (artwork
on the envelope) features a color photo of the front of the house with
the following caption below, "Outside surroundings are reflected in
the glass walls of Philip Johnson's Glass House in New Canaan,
Connecticut." Essentially a glass box with an exposed steel frame, the
Glass House is an excellent example of architecture's International
Style.
Double matted in blue & white, it's sized to fit a standard 8 X 10 frame. ***Certificate of Authenticity Included as well as a short commentary on this MASTER OF MODERN ARCHITECTURE***
