The world's first cacheted First Day Cover was created by George W. Linn in 1923. Linn had gone to Marion, Ohio for the issue of the 2 cents in memoriam stamp for Warren Harding. By adding text to the envelope, Linn created the first cacheted first day cover. Shown here is a Commemorative Cover, an envelope cancelled on Sptember 1, 1973 from Marion, Ohio, "freezing" the place and date of this philateic event.

The color cachet (artwork on the envelope) features a portrait of Linn, most widely known for Linn's Stamp News which he started in 1928.

Double matted in green & white, this piece is sized to fit a standard 8 X 10 frame.
