On February 12, 1955, the USPS issued a stamp commemorating the 100th anniversary of the First Land Grant Colleges - Michigan State and Pennsylvania State. Shown here is a genuine Commemorative Cover with that stamp cancelled in State College, Pennsylvania on March 30, 1955. Penn Sate was chartered February 22, 1855. Since the stamp was cancelled the first day from East Lansing, MI, this commemorative with the State College postmark is for Penn State.
The cachet (artwork on the envelope) features Penn States' "Old Man" and Michigan State's Beaumont Tower as well the seal for each university. We have added two Pennsylvania stamps - the Liberty Bell and the Pennsylvania State Flag, issued in the Bicentennial year.
Double matted in green & white, it's sized to fit a standard 8 x 10 frame.
