On January 20, 2004, the USPS issued a stamp to honor actor, singer, and civil rights activist, Paul Robeson. Shown here is a genuine FIRST DAY COVER, an envelope with the new stamp cancelled from the CITY OF ISSUE (Princeton, New Jersey) on the FIRST DAY OF ISSUE captioned above. Princeton was selected as city of issue since Robeson graduated first in his class, Phi Beta Kappa in 1918.
The addition of three older stamps (Search of Peace, Show Boat, and Football) make this Cover a Combo. The stamps further tell Robeson's story. The stamps were added along with the new one ; then all four were cancelled on the "birthday" of Robeson's.
The full-color CACHET (artwork on the envelope) features a portrait printed on silk of Robeson. Collectible, historic, this piece is one of many Black Heritage items offered by Wall Art Collectibles.
Double matted in blue & white, it's sized to fit a standard 8 x 10 frame. ***CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY INCLUDED***
