On October 18, 1968, the USPS issued a stamp to honor noted American artist, John Trumbull, known for capturing historical scenes of the American Revolution, notably his four large canvasses in the rotunda of the U.S. Capitol. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover with Trumbull's stamp cancelled from the city of issue (New Haven, Ct.) on the first day of issue captioned above.

The cachet (artwork on the envelope) features an inset of the artist and a black & white reproduction of his famous painting, 'Battle of Bunker Hill', from which the stamp is taken.  Collectible, historic, this is a great piece of early American historical art memorabilia.

It's double matted in  blue & white and will fit a standard 8 x 10 picture frame.  ***Certificate of Authenticity Included***
