Pacific Coral Reef.....Humphead Wrasse
On January 2, 2004, the USPS issued a set of ten large, full-colored stamps commemorating the Pacific Coral Reef...from brightly colored tropical fish to exotic marine coral formations, to scary predators on patrol. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover, an envelope with one of the ten stamps, this one for the Humphead Wrasse, cancelled from the city of issue (Honolulu, HI) on the first day of issue captioned above.
The full-color cachet (artwork on the envelope) shows, what can only be described as, the reef's 'eating machine.' From bivalves to fish, crustaceans and echinoderms, the Humphead Wrasse even dines on toxic species. It can grow to over seven feet in length and weigh well over 400 pounds! Shown also are two brightly-colored Moorish Idols. The company that produced this cover has also written a brief commentary about this extraordinary reef fish, which we've included. For more information about the other nine stamps in the series, see individual First Day Covers, and also the entire Pacific Coral Reef Souvenir Sheet in the 11x14 size.
Double matted in blue and white, we've sized it to fit a standard 8x10 frame. ***Certificate of Authenticity plus Commentary Included***
