PROJECT Mercury Alan Shepard Freedom 7 First Day Cover...

On May 4, 2011, the USPS issued a 'Forever' stamp to commemorate Project Mercury, America's first manned spaceflight program begun in 1959. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover, an envelope with the stamp depicting Alan Shepard, the first American in space, cancelled from the city of issue (Kennedy Space Center, FL) on the first day of issue captioned above.

The cachet (artwork on the envelope) shows a photo of the Launch of the Freedom 7 on May 5, 1961, courtesy of NASA. The company that produced this cover has also written a brief commentary about the Mercury Project, which we've included.

Double matted in blue & white, this piece will fit a standard 8 X 10 frame. ***Certificate of Authenticity  plus Commentary Included***
