On July 19, 1960, the USPS issued a stamped envelope to commemorate the 100th Anniversary of The Pony Express Service operating from St. Joseph, Missouri to Sacramento, California. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover, an envelope with the imprint or 'stamp' cancelled from the city of issue (Saint Joseph, MO) on the first day of issue captioned above. Note the additional postmark honoring the partnership of Russell, Majors, and Waddell, that operated the Pony Express as well as other shipping businesses.
The brown toned cachet (artwork on the envelope) features a pony express rider at full gallop racing across the American West. Collectible, historic, this is a great piece of postal and Western US memorabilia.
Double matted in blue & white, it's sized to fit a standard 8 x 10 frame. ***Certificate of Authenticity Included***
