Piper Cub..... On July 19, 1997, the USPS issued a set of twenty stamps
honoring Classic American Aircraft.
One of these is the Piper Cub. Shown
here is a genuine First Day Cover, an envelope with
the Piper Cub stamp cancelled from the city of issue (Dayton,
Ohio) on the first day of issue (captioned above.)
The cachet (artwork on the envelope)
features two photos of old cubs. At the bottom the text reads, "Piper
Cub - Called the 'Model T' of aviation...Eleven separately-designed
'cub' models were built between 1930-49...These planes ranged from 2-4
seaters with 37-145 horsepower." For so many pilots, this was the
aircraft on which they learned to fly. If you're one of them, or if you
just plane appreciate this oldie-goldie, this is a piece of collectible
postal art you'll love for your wall.
Double
matted in blue
& white, we've sized it to fit a standard
8 x 10 frame. ***Certificate of Authenticity
