PHEASANT 1st Day Cover 1998 Ring-Necked PHEASANT Stamp.... On July 31,1998, the USPS issued a stamp to commemorate one of North America's most beautiful game birds, the Pheasant. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover, an envelope with the new 20-cent Pheasant Stamp cancelled from the city of issue (Somerset, N.J.) on the first day of issue
captioned above. In short, it's the 'birthday' of the stamp - a
collectible, historic piece of postal, as well as hunting memorabilia.
The addition of the Tugboat stamp merely serves the purpose of bring the
postage up to the current first class rate.
The full-color cachet
(artwork on the envelope) shows a magnificent Ring-Necked Pheasant
bursting into flight. The original artwork is by Don Balke, noted
wildlife artist. The company that produced this cover has also written a
brief commentary about the Pheasant, which we've included.
