Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover commemorating the 100th Anniversary of the very first National Wildlife Refuge: Pelican Island, located in the Indian River Lagoon on the Atlantic coast of central Florida. The beautiful full-color Pelican stamp was cancelled on the first day (March 14, 2003) from the city of issue (Sebastian, Fl.) Note the "flying pelican cancellation."
The full-color cachet (artwork on the envelope) features a standing pelican and pelicans in flight across the envelope. This is a collectible, historic piece of postal and wildlife memorabilia.
