On July 29, 2005, the USPS issued a set of ten stamps called American Advances in Aviation. Instead of having the usual one city of issue, this set has two cities of issue...Vienna, Virginia and Oshkosh, Wisconsin. We have closen to have our covers for this set issued from Oshkosh. A special cancellation was designed for this set setting it apart from all previous cancellations.
Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover of the PBY Catalina, an envelope with the new stamp cancelled from Oshkosh on the first day of issue captioned above. The impressive full-color cachet (artwork on the envelope) features the PBY Catalina, whose internally braced cantilever wing and retractable wingtip floats supplied the aerodynamic innovations necessary to make it the most successful US Navy flying boat of WWII. This piece is accompanied by a short history of this aircraft as well as the text that is printed on the back of the stamp liner.
Double matted in blue and white, and sized to fit a standard 8 x 10, it's a perfect gift for anyone who loves military aircraft. ***Certificate of Authenticity Included***
