On May 13, 1981, the USPS issued a set of four stamps commemorating Butterflies. One of these is the Orange-Tip, almost always found in open pine-oak or oak-hickory woodlands of the eastern U.S. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover, an envelope with the stamp cancelled from the city of issue (Indianapolis) on the first day of issue captioned above.
The full-color cachet (artwork on the envelope) depicts a male Orange-Tip, showing off his dark spots, which only he has....a built-in 'dating service!' The producer of this cover has written a brief commentary about the Orange-Tip, which we've included.
Double matted in green and white, this piece will fit a standard 8 x 10 picture frame. For anyone who loves the magic of butterflies, this is truly a unique gift. ***Certificate of Authenticity plus Commentary Included***
