Oregon Sesquicentennial... On January 14, 2009, the USPS issued a stamp commemorating the 150th Anniversary of Oregon Statehood. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover, an envelope with the stamp cancelled from the city of issue (Portland, OR) on the first day of issue
captioned above. The addition of three older stamps, which were added
to the cover and then cancelled along with the new stamp elevate it to a
Combo. Note the special postmark created for the express purpose of cancelling the sesquicentennial stamp on its 'birthday.' The oldest stamp (issued July 14, 1936) in this Combo is the purple stamp commemorating the Centennial of the Oregon Territory
before it was a formal territory of the United States and depicting a
map of the same. The orange 3-cents stamp celebrates the Centennial of the Oregon Territory
as an organized territory of the United States, and was issued August
14, 1948. It depicts a covered wagon being pulled by oxen as well as John McLoughlin (The 'Father' of Oregon) and Jason Lee (Oregon pioneer.) The green 4-cents stamp depicts a covered wagon and Mt. Hood and commemorates the Centennial of Oregon Statehood.
The color cachet
(artwork on the envelope produced by a private company, not the post
office) features a scenic view of Mt. Hood in the background and
reflected in a clear lake. The picture is printed on silk surrounded by an embossed gold border.
Double matted in green & white, it's sized to fit a standard 8x10 frame. ***Certificate of Authenticity Included***
