Olivia... On January 10, 2006, the USPS and Great Britain each issued a set of eight stamps - two jointly - to commemorate Favorite Children's Book Animal Characters. Shown here is the genuine First Day Cover for the Olivia, the engaging hyper-active created by Ian Falconer. The envelope shows the cancellation from the U.S. city of issue (Findlay, Ohio) on the first day of issue captioned above. Note the wonderful postmark created to cancel this set of stamps on the first day!
The color cachet (artwork on the envelope) features an illustration by Jessie Willcox Smith of a child in a window seat reading.
As we get older we look back on our childhood, realizing that the books
our parents read us and the characters we loved are imbedded in our
psyche. When we become adults one of the most personal things we can do
is share those beloved stories of our childhood with a new generation
of children, inspiring a joy for reading. Whether you are reading these
books to your children now or your grandchildren, or maybe just because
it tickles you to have a favorite character honored by a stamp, this is
a set that's sure to evoke pleasant childhood memories. Great art,
historic, unaddressed...they'll look fabulous framed and on your wall!
Check out the other seven covers to see the other animals chosen to
have its own stamp. And...if your daughter's name is Olivia...this is a
'must have.'
Double matted in blue and white, it will fit a standard 8 x 10 picture frame. ***Certificate of Authenticity plus a Short Commentary About Children's Literature Included ***
