Old English Sheepdog...
On February 7, 1979, the Royal Mail of the United Kingdom issued four full-colored stamps celebrating four different dog breeds...the Old English Sheepdog, the Welsh Springer Spaniel, the West Highland Terrier, and the Irish Setter. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover with the stamp for the Old English Sheepdog cancelled from the city of issue (South Devon) on the first day of issue captioned above.
The full-color cachet (artwork on the envelope) features a wonderful portrait of an Old English Sheepdog with a field of sheep in the background. An excellent companion, affectionate and sensitive, this breed is able to herd sheep without terrorizing them, letting his size and bear-like gait do the job. The producer of this cover has also written a short commentary about the Old English Sheepdog, which we've included.
Matted in green, it's sized to fit a standard 8 x 10 picture frame. *** Certificate of Authenticity plus Commentary Included***
