On October 15, 1968, the USPS issued a stamp commemorating the 75th Anniversary of the Opening of the Cherokee Strip, when 175,000 people sought to stake out homesteads in Oklahoma. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover, an envelope with the full-color stamp cancelled from the city of issue (Ponca City, OK) on the first day of issue captioned above.
The black & white cachet (artwork on the envelope produced by a private company, not the post office) features a map of Oklahoma showing the Cherokee Strip as well as early settlers.
Double matted in blue & white, it's sized to fit a standard 8x10 frame. ***Certificate of Authenticity Included***
