Phoebe Yates Pember....

On June 29, 1995, the USPS honored Phoebe Yates Pember, in the Civil War series of 20 stamps, for her outstanding contribution to nursing in the Confederacy. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover, an envelope with the stamp cancelled from the city of issue (Gettysburg, PA) on the first day of issue captioned above.

Collectible, historic, and pristine, this cover features a beautiful colored photo cachet (artwork on the envelope) of Phoebe Pember with smaller pictures of the hospital in which she worked during the Civil War, Robert E. Lee, and several pictures of wounded Confederate soldiers.  The company that produced this cover has also written a brief commentary about this remarkable woman who wrote an account of her wartime nursing experiences in her memoirs, "A Southern Woman's Story", rated as "one of the very best Confederate memoirs."

Double matted in blue and white, this piece is sized to fit a standard 8x10 frame.  ***Certificate of Authenticity plus Commentary Included***
