Painting a black eye isn't easy...even Norman Rockwell, in order to get the coloration just right, had to advertise for a model....in the end a young boy from Springfield, Massachusetts filled the bill.  "The Champ" became the Saturday Evening Post cover for the May 23, 1953 issue.  Featuring a young girl, obviously pleased with her performance, she sits outside the principal's office, clothes dishelved, a whopper of a black eye and a grin to match.

The featured stamp commemorates the Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks on their 100th anniversary.  Issued from Chicago, Illinois on May 1, 1968, the stamp is cancelled exactly 12 years later, and calls attention to their annual National Youth Week.

Matted in blue, it's sized to fit a standard 8x10 frame.   ***A detailed commentary about the painting, the Elks, and the stamp is included***
