This spectacular black & white photo print shows a "Spellout" by sailors on three different carriers underway (top to bottom: USS Intrepid CVA-11;USS Saratoga CVA-60; and, USS Independence CVA-62.) The spellout commemorates the 50th anniversary of Naval Aviation in 1961 as does the uncancelled, collectible stamp on the right. The other two stamps are the 1945 Sailors stamp issued in 1945 to honor the service and contribution to the WWII war effort by the US Navy, and the International Naval Review stamp featuring the USS Saratoga. As a point of interest, the latter stamp, issued in 1957, was the first US stamp to be cancelled on the first day of issue from a ship - the USS Saratoga.
Not only is this a fantastic photo, but the addition of the three historical stamps makes this a collectible piece indeed...a great gift!
Matted in blue, it's sized to fit a standard 11 X 14 frame.
