On July 15, 2006, the USPS issued a set of four stamps honoring Baseball Sluggers - Roy Campanella, Mickey Mantle, Mel Ott, and Hank Greenberg.  Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover, an envelope with the stamp for Mel Ott cancelled from the city of issue (Bronx, New York) on the first day of issue captioned above.  Note the special postmark of a 'slugger' designed expressly to cancel this set of stamps on their 'birthday.'

The cachet (artwork on the envelope) features a bat, glove, and baseball with 'Mel Ott' on it.  It's printed on silk, the luster lending an-almost three dimensional quality to the picture and a vibrancy to the color.

We have paired this First Day Cover with a black & white photo print of Mel Ott - who was the first National League player to hit 500 home runs, leading the league in homers six times. Known for his unusual, but powerful high-leg-kick batting stance, Ott had an outstanding 22-year career with the New York Giants.  Historic, collectible, this combination 1st Day Cover - Photo captures a bygone era of the great game of Baseball.

Matted in black, it's sized to fit a standard 11x14 frame.  ***Certificate of Authenticity Included***
