On April 4, 2002, the USPS issued a set of 50 stamps commemorating each state in postcard format. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover, an envelope with the full-color stamp for the state of North Carolina depicting Cape Hatteras and a Wright Brothers plane, cancelled from the city of issue (Raleigh, NC) on the first day of issue captioned above. Note the special postmark created to cancel this set of 50 stamps on their 'birthday.'
The full-color cachet (artwork on the envelope produced by a private company, not the post office) shows the open letters of 'NC' with a view of the Outer Banks with Cape Hatteras on the horizon. It's printed on silk, the luminosity lending an almost three dimensional quality to the picture.
Double matted in blue & white, it's sized to fit a standard 8x10 frame. ***Certificate of Authenticity Included***
