Stanley Cup Centennial.... On
April 16, 1993, the Canada Post issued a stamp to commemorate the
centennial of the oldest trophy competed for by professional athletes
in North America - the Stanley Cup. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover, an envelope with the new stamp cancelled from the city of issue (Toronto, Ontario) on the first day of issue captioned above. Note the special postmark of the Stanley Cup created to cancel this stamp on its 'birthday.'
The cachet
(artwork on the envelope) shows the coveted Stanley Cup, donated by
Governor General Lord Stanley in 1893 for presentation to the amateur
hockey champions of Canada. In 1926 it came under the exclusive control
of the NHL.
The
United States has no stamp for the NHL or any of its players. This
collectible cover from Canada, in pristine condition, is a must-have
postal tribute to NHL Hockey History. The cover also comes with a
commentary that is printed on the back of the envelope.
Matted in black, it's sized to fit a standard 8 x 10 picture frame. ***Certificate of Authenticity plus Commentary Included ***
