On July 26, 1988, the USPS issued a stamp commemorating the 200th Anniversary of the Statehood of New York. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover, an envelope with the full-color stamp, depicting a NY street scene in 1788, cancelled from the city of issue (Albany, NY) on the first day of issue captioned above.
The color cachet (artwork on the envelope produced by a private company, not the post office) features several vignettes of New York. The company that produced this cover has also written a brief commentary about New York, which we've included.
