Nine Mile Prairie - Nebraska..... On March 6, 2001, the USPS issued a stamp celebrating the Nine Mile Prairie,
so named for its being exactly nine miles from the Lincoln, Nebraska
City Center. Of the 230 acres of tallgrass prairie, 210 have never been
plowed, and, therefore, preserved for teaching, research and nature
study. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover, an envelope with the stamp, depicting six-foot high bluestem grass, cancelled from the city of issue (Lincoln, NE) on the first day of issue captioned above.
The color cachet
(artwork on the envelope produced by a private company, not the post
office) features the state of Nebraska with tall prairie grass. The
company that produced this cover has written a brief commentary about
the Nine Mile Prairie, which we've included.
Double matted in blue & white, it's sized to fit a standard 8x10 frame. ***Certificate of Authenticity Included***
