W.E.B. DuBois.... On January 31, 1992, the USPS issued a stamp in their Black Heritage Series to honor noted sociologist, educator, and Black civil rights activist W.E.B. DuBois. Shown here is a Collector Panel, consisting of full-color original artwork by Ron Adair (a portrait of DuBois with marchers against the backdrop of the US Supreme Court), a brief commentary about DuBois, and four of the aforementioned stamps displayed in mint condition. Printed on heavy stock paper, the panel also has an embossed border.
The full-color stamp designed by Higgins Bond was issued on its 'birthday' from Atlanta, Georgia, where DuBois taught at Atlanta University. It depicts a portrait of DuBois with a smaller inset of him at his typewriter, calling attention to his editorship of the periodical The Crisis, his compilation of the first U.S. case study of a Black community, and his authorship of the book, The Souls of Black Folk.
Matted in blue, it's sized to fit a standard 11x14 frame. At Wall Art Collectibles, we always mat to standard frame sizes, allowing you to select the frame of your choice.
