Mickey and the Fireman Print with 1948 Firemen First Day Cover.... Several years ago when Florida was experiencing a severe drought, Volunteer Firemen
came to Disney's aid by fighting fires getting perilously close to the
Disney Parks. In appreciation, Disney had huge posters made with this
artwork - Mickey & the Fireman - featuring Mickey
shaking hands with a fireman, who, in turn is tipping his helmet to
Mickey. Disney then had the company's dignitaries sign each poster and
presented them to each man who helped contain the fires. The
significance of the print is this: It is the first time Disney
has portrayed Mickey looking 'up' at anyone other than Walt himself,
and actually 'touching' anyone other than Walt. It's the ultimate tribute from Disney to the men & women who lay their lives on the line every day to keep us safe.
It's joined by a genuine First Day Cover, an envelope with the 3-cents stamp (depicting Peter Stuyvesant) commemorating the 300th anniversary of Volunteer Firemen, cancelled from the city of issue (Dover, DE) on the first day of issue (October 4, 1948.) The cachet (artwork on the envelope) shows a portrait of a very young Benjamin Franklin by C.O. Wright in 1795. If you're looking for a piece of art that combines history and a good story with collectibility ...this is it!
Matted in blue, it's sized to fit a standard 11x14 frame.
