On July 28, 1983, the USPS issued a set of four stamps to commemorate the upcoming Summer Olympic Games being held in Los Angeles in 1984.. Shown here is an envelope with the stamp celebrating Men's Discus cancelled from the city of issue (South Bend, Indiana) on the first day of issue captioned above.
The full-color cachet (artwork on the envelope) features a Men's Discus Competitor. Combining painstaking skill with massive, brute strength, the discus throw is as old as the ancient Greek Olympics, and joined the modern Olympic Games in 1896. The producer of this cover has written a short commentary about the sport of discus throwing. Historic, collectible, this is a great piece of Discus Memorabilia.
Double matted in blue & white, it's sized to fit a standard 8 x 10 picture frame. ***Certificate of Authenticity Included plus the Commentary***
