ON APRIL 1, 1965, THE USPS ISSUED A STAMP TO COMMEMORATE THE CRUSADE AGAINST CANCER. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover, an envelope with the new stamp cancelled from the city of issue (Washington, DC) on the first day of issue captioned above.
The color cachet (artwork on the envelope) features various warning signs for cancer as well as a small commentary at the bottom honoring the American Cancer Society "For its programs of service, research and education emphasizing that cancer often can be cured if an awaremess of Early Danger Signals is followed by Prompt Medical Treatment." Also included is a separate insert elaborating on early cancer awareness.
