On February 28, 1987, the USPS issued a stamp honoring Mary Lyon, educator and founder of Mount Holyoke College. The stamp also commemorates the 150th anniversary of the college. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover, an envelope with the new stamp cancelled from the city of issue (South Hadley, MA) on the first day of issue captioned above. Note: The addition of the Julia Ward Howe stamp serves the purpose of making up postage to the current rate for 1987.
The cachet (artwork on the envelope) features a portrait of Lyon and the campus of Mount Holyoke College.
Double matted in blue & white, it's sized to fit a standard 8 x 10 frame. ***CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY INCLUDED***
