On June 4, 1997, the USPS issued a stamp to commemorate the Marshall Plan and Secretary of State George C. Marshall. Shown here is a First Day Cover, an envelope with the new stamp cancelled from the city of issue (Cambridge, MA) on the first day of issue captioned above.
The full-color cachet (artwork on the envelope) is printed on silk and surrounded by gold embossing. It depicts George C. Marshall...Army Chief of Staff and then Secretary of State. His speech given at Harvard outlined his economic recovery plan for Europe, which became know as the Marshall Plan.
