On October 28, 1981, the USPS issued their religious Christmas stamp depicting Madonna & Child from the painting by Renaissance painter Sandro Botticelli. Today this painting hangs in the Chicago Art Institute. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover, an envelope with the new stamp cancelled from the city of issue (Chicago, Illinois) on the first day of issue captioned above.
The full-color cachet (artwork on the envelope) shows the shepherds marveling at hearing the Angel of God. The producer of this cover has also written a brief commentary on Botticelli. We have included a copy for you.
Double matted in green & white, this piece is sized to fit a standard 8 x 10 frame. ***Certificate of Authenticity Included***
