Molly Pitcher..... On September 8, 1978,the USPS issued an imprinted postcard to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Monmouth and to honor Molly Pitcher and her bravery. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover, a postcard with the imprint (an imprint is treated as if it were a separate stamp) cancelled from the city of issue (Freehold, NJ) on the first day of issue captioned above.
The cachet (artwork on the
envelope) repeats the theme of the stamp - Molly serving the cannon
with the caption, "Molly Pitcher - Her name found a place in history
when she fired the cannon for her wounded husband." The company that
produced this cover has also written a brief commentary about Pitcher
and the Battle of Monmouth. Historic, collectible, this is one of many
items honoring famous Americans offered by Postal Stamp Art.
Double matted in blue & white, it's sized to fit a standard 8 x 10 frame. ***Certificate of Authenticity |
