Herman Melville....

On March 7, 1970, the USPS issued a 'stamp' in the form of an imprint to honor Herman Melville's masterpiece Moby Dick. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover, a 'stamped' envelope with the imprint featuring the white whale Moby Dick, cancelled from the city of issue (New Bedford, MA) on the first day of issue captioned above.

The cachet (artwork on the envelope) depicts Moby Dick with Captain Ahab's whaling ship Pequod in the background as well as a an inset portrait of Melville.  At the bottom the text reads,  "Honoring Herman Melville, American Author 1819-1801 - Saluting the Whaling Industry - First Day of Issue."

Double matted in blue and white, this item is sized to fit a standard 8x10 frame.  ***Certificate of Authenticity Included***
