On February 3, 1998, the USPS issued a set of fifteen stamps representing events of the 1st decade of the 20th century. One of these events was the St. Louis World's Fair which opened on April 30, 1904. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover, an envelope with the stamp, depicting two children enjoying one of the defining creations of the Fair - the ice cream cone, cancelled from the city of issue (Washington, DC) on the first day of issue captioned above. The is set of fifteen stamps was, in turn, part of a larger set called Celebrate the Century, 150 stamps in all!
The color cachet (artwork on the envelope produced by a private company, not the post office) features a progam of the Fair, as well as a small blurb on another innovation of the Fair - the invention of iced tea.
Double matted in blue & white, it's sized to fit a standard 8x10 frame. ***Certificate of Authenticity Included***
