Maria Sibylla Merian.....

On March 3, 1997, the USPS issued a pair of stamps honoring botanical artist Maria Sibylla Merian - one depicting a pineapple with two different species of cockroaches, the other showing a citron with moth, larva and pupa, and a beetle.  Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover, an envelope with both stamps cancelled from the city of issue (Washington DC) on the first day of issue captioned above.

The color cachet (artwork on the envelope) features a drawing of another Merian print - this time the Magnolia with a Lady Bug on one of its petals.  The original artwork was rendered in watercolors by award-winning cachet artist Sue Allen.

Double matted in green and white, it's sized to fit a standard 8 x 10 frame.  ***Certificate of Authenticity  Included***
