Mendez v. Westminster.... On September 14, 2007, the USPS issued a stamp to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the historic court case Mendez v. Westminster. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover, an envelope with the new stamp cancelled from the city of issue (Santa Ana, CA) on the first day of issue
captioned above. The addition of four older stamps, which were
cancelled along with the Mendez stamp elevate this First Day Cover to a
Combo. The additional stamps are the 20-cents Hispanic Americans stamp, the 29-cents Chief Justice Earl Warren stamp, the 22-cents Public Education stamp, and the 37-cents Justice Thurgood Marshall stamp.
The cachet (artwork on the envelope) is printed on silk and surrounded by gold embossing.
It shows a class from the Westminster, California School District with
the following caption, "Separate is Not Equal - Mendez et al. v.
Westminster School District et al. - 'A paramount requisite of the
American system public education is social equality. It must be open
to all children by unified school association regardless of lineage.'
Federal District Judge Paul J. McCormick from Mendez et al. v.
Westminster School Dist. of Orange County et al." Historic, collectible it's matted in black & white and will fit a standard 8 x 10 picture frame. ***Certificate of Authenticity Included***
