Mary Lasker.... On May 15, 2009, the USPS issued a 78-cents stamp to honor health activist Mary Lasker. Shown here is a genuine FIRST DAY COVER, an envelope with the new stamp depicting a portrait of Lasker cancelled from the CITY OF ISSUE (Washington DC) on the FIRST DAY OF ISSUE captioned above.
The color cachet (artwork
on the envelope) features a black and white photo of Mary Lasker,
recipient of two prestigious awards for her tireless work in raising
funds for medical research and her founding of the Lasker Foundation....the Presidential Medal of Freedom (1969) and the Congressional Gold Medal (1989), both displayed in the background. The picture is printed on silk surrounded with an embossed gold border.
