On June 29, 1995, the USPS issued a set of twenty stamps commemorating people and events of the Civil War. One of the people honored was Mary Chestnut, whose diary kept during the entire war gave insight into life in the South.  The PBS series on the Civil War by Ken Burns featured many excerpts from Mary Chestnut's diary. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover, an envelope with the new stamp cancelled from the city of issue (Gettysburg) on the first day of issue captioned above. Note the Special Cancellation designed for this set of stamps.

The cachet (artwork on the envelope) features a full-color portrait of Mary Chestnut.  Historic, collectible this is one of many Civil War pieces of memorabilia offered by Wall Art Collectibles. A short commentary on Chestnut is printed on the back of the envelope which we have copied and included for you.

Double matted in blue & white, it's sized to fit a standard 8 x 10 frame.  ***Certificate of Authenticity plus Commentary Included***
