MARS PATHFINDER Rover Sojourner 1st Day Cover.... On December 10, 1997, the USPS issued a stamp to commemorate the landing on the planet Mars on July 4, 1997, by the Mars Pathfinder. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover, an oversized envelope with the Souvenir Sheet - the stamp surrounded by extra artwork - cancelled from the city of issue (Pasadena, CA) on the first day of issue captioned above. The souvenir sheet shows the actual stamp depicting the Mars Rover Sojourner emerging from its protective wrapping, surrounded by the Mars landscape on the rest of the sheet. Measuring 5 3/4 x 3 1/4 inches, this spectacular souvenir sheet is bordered in metallic copper.
The black & white cachet (artwork on the envelope) shows a drawing of Mars with Sojourner and a small Earth in the distance. Historic, collectible this cover is an exciting piece of Space Postal Memorabilia celebrating man's exploration of the Planet Mars.
