On May 14, 2004, the USPS issued three stamps commemorating the 200th Aniversary of the historic expedition of William Clark and Meriwether Lewis (1804-6) on its 200th Anniversary. Shown here is one of these and features both William Clark and Meriwether Lewis on a genuine First Day Cover, an envelope with the new stamp cancelled from the city of issue (Dillon, MT.) on the first day of issue captioned above. Several "cities of issue" were selected to cancel these stamps on the first day, marking a trail across the country until the Pacific coast was reached.
The full-color cachet (artwork on the envelope) features art produced exclusively for this cover by Chris Calle, titled "Sacagawea and Her Brother Reunite" Once again, Sacagawea provided invaluable help by securing horses from her people, the Shoshone, to cross the Continental Divide. When her brother, Chief Cameahwait, recrossed the Divide to meet the remainder of the expedition, Sacagawea was overjoyed to be reunited with her brother. This is one of several collectible, historic pieces of American History Memorabilia offered by Wall Art Collectbles.
Matted in blue, it's sized to fit a standard 8 x 10 frame. ***Certificate of Authenticity Included as well as a short commentary on this portion of the journey***
