On May 7, 1981, the USPS issued a stamp to commemorate the 175th Anniversary of the ratification of the Bill of Rights. In December of 1791, ten of the amendments proposed by James Madison, guaranteeing individual liberties for as long as the United States shall exist, were ratified by the states. Shown here is a genuine FIRST DAY COVER, an envelope with the new stamp cancelled from the CITY OF ISSUE (Gunston Hall, VA) on the FIRST DAY OF ISSUE captioned above.

The black & white cachet (artwork on the envelope) features Four Famous Virginians.....George Mason, who was instrumental in getting the Bill of Rights adopted as well as Patrick Henry, Thomas Jefferson, and James Madison.

Double matted in blue & white, it's sized to fit a standard 8 x 10 frame.   ***CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY INCLUDED***
