On July 1, 1966, the USPS issued a stamp to commemorate the 175th Anniversary of the ratification of the Bill of Rights. In December of 1791, ten of the amendments proposed by James Madison, guaranteeing individual liberties for as long as the United States shall exist, were ratified by the states. Shown here is a genuine FIRST DAY COVER, an envelope with the new stamp cancelled from the CITY OF ISSUE (Palm Beach, FL) on the FIRST DAY OF ISSUE captioned above.
The black & white cachet (artwork on the envelope) features George Mason, who was instrumental in getting the Bill of Rights adopted.
Double matted in blue & wine, it's sized to fit a standard 8 x 10 frame. ***CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY INCLUDED***
