On September 25, 1989, the USPS issued a stamp to commemorate the Bicentennial of the Constitution of the United States and the Bill of Rights. In December of 1791, ten of the amendments proposed by James Madison, guaranteeing individual liberties for as long as the United States shall exist, were ratified by the states. Shown here is a genuine FIRST DAY COVER, an envelope with the new stamp cancelled from the CITY OF ISSUE (Philadelphia, PA) on the FIRST DAY OF ISSUE captioned above.
The full-color cachet (artwork on the envelope) features four founding fathers and a list of the ten Bill of Rights. The producer of this cover has also written a brief commentary about the Bill of Rights, which we've included.
Double matted in blue & white, it's sized to fit a standard 8 x 10 frame. ***CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY plus COMMENTARY INCLUDED***
