LOUISIANA WORLD EXPO 1984 1st Day Issue Postal Cover.... On
May 11, 1984, the USPS issued a stamp - depicting several species of
birds (anhinga, warbler, tri-color heron, and Canada goose) fish
(largemouth bass, and chain pickerel) a Louisiana crayfish and leopard
frog - to commemorate the Louisiana World Exposition held on an eighty-two acre site along the banks of the Mississippi River in New Orleans. Shown here is a genuine First Day Issue Postal Cover, an envelope with the stamp cancelled from the city of issue (New Orleans) on the first day of issue captioned above.
The full-color cachet
(artwork on the envelope) features a breathtaking view of the Expo from
the Mississippi River, a hot air balloon soaring above, with the theme
being "The World of Rivers - Fresh Water as a Source of Life."
The caption below reads, "Louisiana World Exposition - Exhibits from
around the world demonstrated the resourceful use of fresh water
rivers." The company that produced this cover has also written a brief
commentary about the Louisiana World Exposition, which we've included.
Double matted in blue & white, it's sized to fit a standard 8 x 10 picture frame. ***Certificate of Authenticity Included plus Commentary Included*** |
