On March 27, 1869, the US Bureau of Engraving produced a 3 cents stamp featuring a Locomotive. This was one of nine stamps known as "Omahas," that promoted the American West. Shown here is an envelope featuring a genuine Gold Replica of this 1869 stamp. It's made from an impression taken off the original plate; the soft base metal is then coated in 22 kt. gold and mounted on a rich, garnet velvet background with gold embossing around the opening.
A copy of the original 1869 stamp has been enlarged to show its fine detail. Also included is the First Day of Issue date captioned above. This is an unusual piece of US Postal Memorabilia as well as Train Memorabilia, since this is the first US stamp to depict and commemorate a Train.
Matted in blue, this piece will fit a standard 8 x 10 picture frame.
