On June 14, 1978, the USPS issued a stamp to honor Chief Justice of the Supreme Court Oliver Wendell Holmes. Shown here is a genuine FIRST DAY COVER, an envelope with the new stamp cancelled from the CITY OF ISSUE (Boston, MA) on the FIRST DAY OF ISSUE captioned above.
The full-color CACHET (artwork on the envelope) features a portrait of Holmes printed on silk, the luster adding an almost three-dimensional quality to the picture. This is a collectible, historic piece of Law memorabilia.
