Kate Smith.... On May 27, 2010, the USPS issued a stamp to honor Kate Smith. Shown here is a genuine FIRST DAY COVER, an envelope with the new stamp cancelled from the CITY OF ISSUE (Washington, DC) on the FIRST DAY OF ITS ISSUE
captioned above. Note the special postmark designed expressly to cancel
this stamp on its 'birthday.' The addition of three older stamps,
which were added along with the new one and then cancelled along with it
on its 'birthday, elevate this cover to a Combo. The older stamps are a 4-cents US flag, a 5-cents American Music stamp, and a 37-cents stamp honoring Irving Berlin, who wrote "God Bless America."
The CACHET
(artwork on the envelope) features Smith singing against a 'sheet
music' backdrop of her signature song "God Bless America." The picture
is printed on silk with an embossed gold border.
Double matted in blue & white, it's sized to fit a standard 8 x 10 frame. ***Certificate of Authenticity Included***
