KANSAS Sesquicentennial 4 Stamps 1st Day of Issue Postal Cover... On January 27, 2011, the USPS issued a 'Forever' stamp commemorating the 150th Anniversary (Sesquicentennial) of Kansas Statehood. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover, an envelope with the full-color stamp, depicting the windmills - old and new against a bright blue sky, cancelled from the city of issue (Topeka, KS) on the first day of issue
captioned above. The addition of three older stamps, which were all
cancelled along with the new stamp on its 'birthday' elevate this cover
to a Combo - the most prized of 1st Day Covers. The older stamps include a 3-cents stamp showing oxen drawn wagons and commemorating the Kansas Territorial Centennial and issued on May 31, 1954. The 4-cents stamp celebrates the Centennial of Kansas Statehood and issued on May 10, 1961. The 34-cents stamp is the Greetings from Kansas stamp - one of 50 in the Greetings From America series - and issued April 4, 2002.
The full-color cachet
(artwork on the envelope produced by a private company, not the post
office) shows the State Seal of Kansas, the State Flower - Sunflowers -
and the State Bird - the Western Meadowlark. It's printed on silk, the luster lending an almost three dimensional quality to the artwork.
Double matted in blue & white, this piece is sized to fit a standard 8x10 frame. ***Certificate of Authenticity Included***
