Of all Britain's Legends, none has a more magical hold on the imagination than the stories of King Arthur and the Round Table. From Thomas Mallory in 1485 through countless modern authors, the tales have been retold over and over again; and, if you're addicted to this timeless story, you're delighted every time.
On September 3, 1985, Great Britain issued a set of four stamps commemorating the Arthurian Legend. Shown here is The Sword in the Stone. Cancelled from the city of issue (Edinburgh) on the first day captioned above, this beautiful stamp shows the Lady of the Lake implanting the sword in the stone. The cachet (artwork on the envelope) depicts Arthur pulling the sword from the stone. Note the cancellation of the Holy Grail!
Matted in blue, it will fit a standard 8 x 10 picture frame. ***Certificate of Authenticity Included as well as a short Commentary describing this part of the Legend***
